Shanghai Quartet with guest artists Peter Wiley, cello and Shmuel Ashkenasi, violin

Called “wonderfully ferocious and illuminating” by The Washington Post, the Shanghai Quartet are recognized

for their unique uency in both Eastern folk and Western classical idioms. Guest artist Peter Wiley is a renowned cellist having performed with ensembles including the Beaux Arts Trio and the Guarneri String Quartet. Wiley teaches at the University of Maryland, Bard College Conservatory, and Curtis Institute of Music. Shmuel Ashkenasi is an award- winning Israeli-born violinist and a founding member of The Vermeer Quartet. He teaches at the Curtis Institute of Music and Bard College Conservatory. The evening's program will include two sextets by Johannes Brahms—the B- at major sextet, Op. 18 and the G major sextet, Op. 36.
