“In Cuba, everything that arrives integrates and becomes part of the culture. Jazz is the same way.” –Yosvany Terry

Cuban-born and Grammy®-nominated saxophonist, composer and chekere player Yosvany Terry is at the crest of a wave of New York-based musicians from Cuba and Latin America transforming the international jazz scene, and his powerhouse Afro-Cuban Sextet serves as the essential vessel for further exploration. Blending a verdant continuum of influences from West Africa, Cuba, and American Jazz, Terry has created a sound that is one of the most ambitious visions in contemporary jazz. This potent music maintains a strikingly cohesive sensibility while packing in a dense array of musical ideas and traditions. Terry will be joined by a stellar cast of longtime collaborators.

Join the Modlin Center for the Arts for the pre-show Artistic Viewpoint Discussion with Yosvany Terry at 6:30PM.
