Violinist Tessa Lark is consistently praised for her astounding range of sounds, technical agility, and musical elegance. She is also a highly acclaimed fiddler in the tradition of her native Kentucky. Cello soloist and composer Joshua Roman is known for his “effortlessly expressive tone” (New York Times) and innovative cross-genre collaborations. Bassist and composer Edgar Meyer is hailed by The New Yorker as "...the most remarkable virtuoso in the relatively un-chronicled history of his instrument.” These incredible musicians join us on their first tour together, performing string trios Meyer composed between 1986 and 1988, as well as a newly commissioned work.

About the Music

Early in his career, Meyer composed the series of three string trios, which he premiered with Daniel Phillips and Carter Brey at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. These pieces set the tone for his next four decades, but only one was partially recorded. Meyer says that upon meeting Tessa and Joshua, he saw an opportunity to partner with them and “document this personal milestone”. At this concert, you will hear two of those string trios, a new one intended to “complete the thought,” and a classic Bach sonata.
