Richard Becker, piano
Richard Becker will play music of Ravel, Albeniz, Chopin. The program will feature Becker’s “Nine Inventions for the Muses.” Composed in 2021-2022, the “Inventions” are a set of short piano pieces for the intermediate level pianist. Becker will also read his poetry on the program: From Fates, a chapbook in The Literary Review 2008 issue; from On Sunday Afternoons, published by Finishing Line Press (2022) and available for sale in the lobby; and parts of “Scylla,” a sequence of six poems on Greek Mythology. The “Inventions,” other compositions of Becker and many of his poems were shared with composers, writers and visual artists while a Poetry and Composition Fellow of the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts during the summers of 2021 and 2022.
This concert is offered as part of the Department of Music Free Concert Series 2022 - 2023 Season. The Department of Music produces over 20 concerts annually featuring a broad range of styles and genres.
