Nobuntu is an African concept that values humbleness, love, unity, and family from a woman’s perspective. As the only all-female mbube (South African vocal music) ensemble in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Nobuntu draws upon those values to create moving performances that range from traditional Zimbabwean songs to Afro Jazz to Gospel. Their pure voices, minimalistic percussion, traditional instruments such as the mbira (thumb piano) are how they work to transcend racial, tribal, religious, gender, and economic boundaries in their native Zimbabwe and around the world.
