Profile
Cal Meadows is a collaboration and social justice-oriented arts professional, composer-performer, and librarian with strong foundations in academic librarianship, arts administration, and education. They are particularly passionate about developing thoughtful, student-centered learning experiences and working with faculty to design curricula that encourage critical engagement with the arts and the dynamic world of information. Cal's research interests include systems optimization, interdisciplinary artistic collaboration, improvisation across musical traditions, and DIY movements in the visual and performing arts.
Whether they're building an instructional program, managing a library collection, or thinking about ways to improve patron experiences in the arts, Cal is guided by a commitment to removing barriers—whether physical, financial, or systemic—and creating spaces where everyone can participate fully and authentically.
They live with their wife Annaka and their two cats (Minnie and Clover), who are the harshest critics of Cal's practice sessions on flute and guitar. Cal is also an award-winning Virginia Master Naturalist volunteer, an avid crocheter, and caretaker to several houseplants.
