The Dublin Guitar Quartet (DGQ), citing concerns about COVID-19, has decided not to travel to the United States this month. As a result, a January 27 concert will be changed from a collaborative concert featuring both DGQ and the contemporary music choir The Crossing to a full evening performance by The Crossing.
The concert program will still feature Caroline Shaw’s Her Beacon-hand Beckons and Ayanna Wood’s Shift. Additions to the program include Nico Muhly’s Gentle Sleep, Rough Notes, and I Cannot Attain Unto It, David Lang’s the sense of senses, and Shara Nova’s Resolve.
These composers are among the most respected and creative creators of contemporary music. Two of them—Shaw and Lang—are Pulitzer Prize winners, and all five are highly sought after by artists commissioning new work.
The Crossing is a Grammy-nominated chamber choir hailing from Philadelphia that has, as the New York Times put it, “made a name for itself…as a champion of new music.” ‘
Co-sponsored by the University of Richmond’s Department of Music.
Join us at 6:30 pm in Camp Concert Hall for a pre-concert discussion with Donald McNally, director of The Crossing, led by VPM Music Classcial host Mike Goldberg.
