Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn, “the king and queen of the banjo” (Paste Magazine), enjoy a musical collaboration like no other. Fleck is a 15-time Grammy Award-winning virtuoso of experimentation and composer with bluegrass roots. Washburn is a singer-songwriter and clawhammer banjo player whose work mingles Appalachian and Chinese folk music, speaking to the importance of cultural understanding and the power of communal experiences rooted in traditions of sound. They met at a square dance before collaborations, courtship, and coupling. Together, they’ll perform pieces from their Grammy-winning self-titled debut and 2019’s Echo in the Valley. With one collective eye on using the banjo to showcase America’s rich heritage and the other on new, unique musical realms, Fleck and Washburn’s sound feels both wildly innovative and warmly familiar – a picking partnership unlike any other.
