"Patriot Act is the manifestation of Hasan’s whip-smart commentary, charisma, and sincerity. It’s also a consistent reminder that Hasan is America. And America is Hasan.” – Trevor Noah, TIME
Comedian, writer, producer, and political commentator Hasan Minhaj will join the UR community for a virtual live conversation hosted by journalism professor Shahan Mufti, along with questions from the UR community. Minhaj will discuss the role of comedy in his work related to culture, identity politics, and social justice.
Pioneering, two-time Peabody Award-winning comedian Hasan Minhaj is the creator of Netflix's comedy show, Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, which brought an inclusive and nuanced perspective to global news, politics, and culture. A first generation American, Minhaj comes from a Muslim family originally from India. He draws on his personal history and the immigrant experience to explore the modern cultural and political landscape with depth and sincerity.
Named to TIME's "100 Most Influential People in the World," Minhaj originally rose to prominence as a senior correspondent on The Daily Show. He has gone on to host the White House Correspondents' Dinner and air his own critically acclaimed one-hour Netflix comedy special, Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King.
Shahan Mufti, department chair and associate professor of journalism and author of the The Faithful Scribe: A Story of Islam, Pakistan, Family and War, guides the conversation along with questions from the UR community.
