Join University Dancers in celebrating 30 years of engaging and innovative dance with our anniversary celebration, @30 that brings the work of innovative and talented choreographers Larry Keigwin and Norbert de la Cruz to the Modlin Center. The concert also features riveting premiere works choreographed by Richmond dance faculty Matthew Thornton, whose work draws from movement-theater, martial arts, and site-specific projects and Anne Van Gelder, University Dancers artistic director.
Larry Keigwin, founder and artistic director of KEIGWIN + COMPANY, a troupe known for its electrifying brand of contemporary dance, delights audiences with his theatrical, witty, and refreshing vision of dance. Praised for his combination of athleticism and aesthetically dynamic shapes and forms, Norbert De La Cruz III is the 2012 recipient of the Jerome Robbins Foundation’s NEW Essential Works Grant and 2014 recipient of the Joffrey Ballet’s Choreographer of Color award.
@30 will include a unique dance and lighting collaboration between Department of Theatre and Dance alumni choreographer, Kim Urba and professional lighting designer, Michael Jarrett. Outstanding adjudicated student choreography and live music will be featured, and department faculty Johann Stegmeir and Maja E. White will design original costumes and lights respectively. Don’t miss these talented dancers in a variety of works from the contemporary genre in a dance concert perfect for the entire family.
