A year that is not a leap year is called a “common year.” In leap year 2008, an “uncommon year,” the University Dancers present an uncommon dance concert with choreography by selected students, faculty and guest artists. Get swept away with the unforgettable, high-velocity works of dance as you enjoy the interplay among light, music and a unique blend of dance—dance that is visually arresting and draws from the movement languages of jazz, ballet and modern.
For this year’s spring concert, each choreographer will delve into a mixed repertory of dance as the universal language that touches the soul with the power to communicate. The limits of choreography will be explored by faculty members Myra Daleng and Anne Van Gelder and innovative guest choreographers James Frazier, Susan Shields, Gusti Sidarta from Bali, and Robert Battle. The University of Richmond is pleased to welcome Battle back for the third year to create a premiere with music written by an up-and-coming Juilliard composer. In 2005, Robert Battle was honored at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with a medal proclaiming him one of the “Masters of African-American Choreography.”
Don’t miss this “uncommon” performance as these talented young dancers show their physical prowess and athleticism as they “leap” into an “uncommon” year.
Tickets: $15 adults, $12 seniors 65+ and UR employees & alumni, $10 students, $6 children 12 and under and $10 UR students
