"The world's reigning male chorus..." —The New Yorker

Sunday, March 29, 2009
7:30 pm

Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music

Chanticleer returns to the Modlin Center this spring, having won kudos from Richmond’s audiences and critics alike in two previous appearances on our stage. The San Francisco-based chorus has established a remarkable reputation for its vivid interpretations of vocal literature—from Renaissance to jazz and from gospel to New Age. With its seamless blend of 12 male voices, ranging from countertenor to bass, the Grammy Award-winning ensemble is internationally celebrated as “an orchestra of voices.” Chanticleer was recently named the 2008 Ensemble of the Year by the editors of the Musical America International Directory of the Performing Artsthe first time a vocal ensemble has been so recognized. This concert marks the 250th anniversary of the song “My Days Have Been So Wondrous Free” composed by Francis Hopkinson in 1759. Chanticleer lends its signature sound to a program dedicated to the diversity of American song in the context of music throughout the world.
