Ngoma African Dance Company

"Zingalamaduni II"

Saturday, March 29, 2008
7:30 pm

Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music

Ngoma African Dance Company was founded in 1995 by University of Richmond graduate Markita Boney. The company has since grown in number and in skill, and continues to flourish.

The word "Ngoma" ( pronounced IN- 'GO- MAH) means "drum and dance" in Swahili, an African dialect. Contrary to popular belief, African dance not only includes dancing, but also acrobatics, chanting, singing and drumming. Ngoma actively incorporates this in performances.

Ngoma's purpose and inspiration is to educate its members and audience about the African culture. In addition to African dances, the company takes advantage of its talented dancers in other areas by incorporating modern, hip hop and other dances into the repertoire.

Tickets: $5 students/$8 adults in advance; $10 at the door
On sale March 3, 2008.
